Early Years 1
Welcome to Early Years 1
Welcome to EY1! Our class Teacher is Mrs Forrester and our Teaching assistants are Mrs Pedlar & Mrs Horner. EY1 is the start of our school journey – and for some children, it is their first ever setting outside of the home environment.
In the first term, we really focus on promoting the ‘Prime areas’ of Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. The children begin to build relationships with one another and the adults in a safe and welcoming environment.
The children have daily access to both inside and outside learning areas where they are learning through their play (we also call this their ‘Child initiated learning’). The adults are helping to support, scaffold and challenge the children’s learning so that they have positive and meaningful experiences.
The children are developing their early Literacy skills by following the level one Twinkl phonics scheme, engaging and building on their listening skills. Activities include identifying different environmental sounds - both inside and outside, going on ‘listening walks’, syllable clapping of words and exposure to rhyme.
The children have 3 small group activities each week with an adult, which involves a Maths focus, a Phonics focus and a Cross curricular focus. Alongside this, the children have a weekly mindful yoga session and a weekly uplifting writing aerobics/dough disco session, to help equip them with the skills for early writing – it is lots of fun!
EY1 is a very special journey of developing new friendships, exploring new experiences and sharing a new love of learning. We are so excited for what this year holds!
