Promoting British Values

The Department of Education (DfE) defines British Values as:

“To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

At Broxbourne Primary, we ensure British Values are woven through our curriculum and lived through the ethos of the school.  All Curriculum areas are provided with a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts: in particular Religious Education (RE), History, Personal, Social, Health and Economics (PSHE) and English.

Whole-school assemblies provide opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.

We encourage children to be open minded and independent individuals; respectful of themselves and others in our school, our local community and wider world.

The five areas of British Values are:

Democracy
The Rule of Law
Individual Liberty
Mutual Respect
Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs.

Highlights of the school’s work on this area are on the picture below.  More detailed information is available from the office.  Email Admin@broxbourne-pri.herts.sch.uk
