PTA
WELCOME TO THE BROXBOURNE CE PTA (“PTA”)
Did you know that by just being a member of our school, you automatically become a member of the PTA? Our PTA is for everyone and is a great way to bring together parents and teachers who are interested in supporting the school. Being part of our PTA is also a lot of fun. Our PTA is a real partnership where both groups working together have developed a valuable relationship between home and school.
WHAT DOES THE PTA DO?
The PTA does lots of things that broadly fall into the following categories:
- Fundraising – we raise funds for the school by way of special events or activities in school (for example we run a gift sale around Mother’s Day and one at Christmas, non-uniform days and lots more!).
- Social Events – we run social events for parents and children (for example there are 2 discos a year, a parent’s quiz night and hopefully a parent’s party night this year too).
- Community Spirit – we enhance, and bolster community spirt by encouraging and enabling parents and children from across the school years to meet and get to know one other.
HOW ARE PTA RAISED FUNDS SPENT?
We are very proud of our hard work and what we have managed to achieve for our school and the children who attend. In partnership with the school, we have been able to provide lots of resources and enrichment for the children, the following are just a few things from over the last few years:
- Funding for school science week and creative arts week.
- Christmas pantomime and class Christmas parties
- JIGSAW resources to help children develop emotional resilience
- interactive whiteboards for the classrooms
- A new activity playground and Trim Trail
- Playground markings and enhancement
- First aid training for every child in Year 6
- Playground boxes
- D&T Resources
- A shed for EYFS storage
- iPads for all classes
- Refurbished the library
- A bouldering wall for KS1
WHO IS THE PTA?
The PTA committee is made up of a team of parents/carers/guardians and teacher representatives from the whole school community. The committee meets at least 3 times per year for a “formal” committee meeting, to discuss fundraising ideas and how to spend money raised. In between, we meet over WhatsApp, online and in person as required to plan events and discuss fundraising ideas. Our meetings are very informal, and newcomers are always welcome.
The PTA is only as good as the time and effort that we as parents are prepared to put into it.
There are different levels of Roles and Responsibilities you can take on if you want to get involved:
PTA VOLUNTEER
Join our WhatsApp group to keep up to updated with events and planning and get in involved with preparation (as much or as little as you like). It could be doing anything from packing sweet bags to volunteering to run a stall to taking the initiative and setting up a new event!
A PTA volunteer is somebody who would like to get involved in running / helping at events and/or being a class rep.
A PTA Volunteer would:
- Attend PTA planning events when possible
- Be included in the PTA WhatsApp group
- Help run/organise/attend PTA events
- Help in the preparation leading up to an event; and
- Be invited to join PTA social events
A PTA Volunteer would not have a formal say on how funds raised are spent. If you wish to have a say on PTA matters and on fund commitments, you should become a PTA Committee Member instead.
PTA COMMITTEE MEMBER
A PTA Committee Member is a volunteer who is elected at the PTA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) (held in September / October each year) to manage the association on behalf of the members. These Members can also vote on PTA business and have a say on where the money raised goes.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
Our class representatives undertake a very important role. There are usually two representatives per class who provide a link between individual classes, parents and the PTA committee. The support from class representatives is vital when it comes to organising our main events. They take charge of their individual class stalls for both the Summer and Christmas Fairs and, with the support of the PTA committee, organise rotas of help and donations. We really could not manage without them!
PTA OFFICERS
In addition to the role / responsibilities of a PTA Volunteer and General Committee Members, the officers have specific roles and functions. If you would be interested in becoming an officer at the next AGM, please speak to one of the current officers who would be delighted to tell you more / get you involved.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our Annual General Meeting is held in September at the beginning of the academic year. It is an opportunity for all parents to come along and hear in more detail about events, funds raised and how the money has been spent. It is also the occasion when we elect our new committee and class representatives.
We also try to run a coffee morning after the AGM for new joiners to meet the current members and to find out more about the PTA and how to get involved.

PTA EVENTS HUB
Some of the PTA events are paid for using the PTA Hub – if you aren’t already a member with an older sibling, you can register via this link:
https://www.pta-events.co.uk/broxbourneprimary/?event=login¬LoggedIn=true&
Paying for certain things using the hub instead of cash helps us to claim gift aid.
Once registered, one of the PTA must approve you before you can order/buy/donate as this is only for parents of children at the school.
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
Please check our school calendar and weekly Newsletter (available on this website or on your email) for forthcoming PTA events.
